Private Party value with excellent condition books it at 20,470. He trying to sell it at suggestive retail value which is car lot price.. Do you think 18K or 19K is a fair price to offer him because if he did trade it in he'll only get that much for it. I'm trying to get it as cheap as I can so I have money left over to throw a hardtop on it and a comptech supercharger with aftercooler..

 

kbb is a bad tool to judge the value. Most dealers will offer half what KBB says they should for a trade in. If he tried to use the car as a trade in, he'd be lucky to get 15K (they'd probably offer him 13K). Offer what you feel it is worth, worst thing that can happen is he'll say no.
