Default Worthless Warranty

Recently, when I close my top it hasn't been lining up correctly. I have to pull it forward and to the drivers side in order to hook the latches. I called my local Honda dealer and made an appointment for the top to be "adjusted" even though I was fairly certain there was no way to adjust it. I leave the car there, and go back to get it 4 hours later.

I come back into the office, they print out my receipt and tell me that they are pulling my car around. I look at the receipt and it says "Customer States that convertable top is not latching correctly. Inspection found car has no adjustments. No needed repairs." I ask them about it and get the run around. They then tell me that they didn't fix it, and they will not fix it. From there we go through an interesting series of excuses as to why they will not cover the repair;

"You car is not under warranty." - I show them my Honda Certified Used Card proving it is under warranty.
"Well, this warranty only covers the powertrain" - Point out the line on the card they are still holding that says "Non-powertrain expiration 6/7/2006, 48,000 mi." (I have 33,300 on my car)
"We can't cover it, especially since the top has holes in it" - I ask, "Isn't that even MORE of a reason you should cover it?"
"We can't cover it because someone could have leaned on it while you were putting the top down and bent the frame." - WTF? Who tries to lean on a top while it's going down?

After fighting with them a little longer I gave up and went on my pissed off way. *Sigh*

(Sorry for the worthless post, just needed to vent a little)

Try using another dealer. I also agree warranties are completely worthless though.

Exactly.

When you contact Honda be polite and professional about the situation and explain that your faith and trust in Honda's automobiles has been damaged by the problems you are experiencing with the dealer. If you put this correctly to them, they will fix it. I never suggest people use warranty for something that they caused, but this doesn't really seem like it's your fault (the stupidity level to sit on the open top, lean/push on it when it's half down, etc just seems to great) so I'd be pursueing other dealers first (to show intent on trying to get the issue resolved before going to Honda corporate) and then Honda.

yellow2001: From the sound of it his 3year/36k warranty ran out June of 2005, but he bought the car as a Certified Pre-Owned honda and therefore has a 4yr/48k bumper to bumper warranty on it.

I love dealers. They get to do as little work as possible and still reap the rewards. Ahhh, smell the

Go to another dealership - you should be covered under the 'non-powertrain' portion of the certification process.

If all else - bring it to the dealership I work for and we'll fix it (if you want to drive to Tenn.).
