I used to have a 924 non turbo that I loved that was a sweet car but I have to say after my many test drives in the S2K they are really great cars, just a lack of low RPM torque

I had a 924 turbo. Compared to the S2K, it was a piece.

Actually, it *was* a piece, although fun to drive. Transmission disintegrated one day. The mechanic at the dealer who disassembled it pointed at a line in a broken casting and said it was clearly flawed at manufacture. Then they refused to replace it. I'll never deal with Porsche again.

First off a 924 turbo and a 944 turbo are worlds apart.

I drove the S2000 a few times (like 30+ hours) and once for about 30min at a Drivers Event.

The S2000 weakness...
Lack of low end TQ
Needs a Brake upgrade to be serious track car
Sloppy rear end and weightless steering

951 weakness....
Maybe as old as 1985
Maintance cost for parts like Timing belts/Turbo/#2 crankbearing.... etc...
Low speed handling is not its forte however its not to bad at it but with its high polar weight the S2000 will surely win any autoX.

S2000 strengths....
Great flickability down at AutoX speeds and in tight corners.
New with a Warrenty
Good Balance/ Convertable top..

951 strengths...
One of the most track proven cars in the world.
Cheap upgrades to get lots of HP out of that turbo!
Great weight distribution along with good polar weight to make controlled rearend slides very fun indeed!
good stock brakes but New Pads/Rotors/brakelines will really make them GREAT!

uhm... to answer the few that have shed tears over no torque, go drive an 04
man, from a 944 to the 04, you will be quite happy. my buddy has a 944 ( i work with him) its a bad ass car 18psi. but when we go out, ive got him covered. so yeah, if any, get an 04, break it in right. then youll see the light. stock, its too tight to judge, so dont test drive and conclude. lates dave

Boost is the one thing i think i'll miss, and tq. but i just keep hearing just how much fun s2k are to frive, i remember b4 i had the car i had a 91 bmw, 318i. I wasnt fast by anymeans but the one thing i could say about the car was that it was fun as hell to drive. It had coil overs and that thing just had such a tight feel. i think i'm gonn have to rode test a sk2 but i think i'd rather get a used one if i can get it a littel cheaper. i was also looking at a 330ci conv, but used there still sooooo expensve($35k) but its a bmw, and they hold their value... i'm way to confussed

I was talking to an auto journalist after a ride in my S2k. He said that torque for city driving is actually a pain and is worse.

First of all the S has enough torque to get you going, it's not like a turtle here, it's got more torque than a civic or cavalier or whatever. Don't worry about.

As far as lots of torque he said he test drove a G35 coupe and hated it, too much low torque kept spinning the wheels. Especially in the winter said it was a pain in the butt and didn't feel safe at all in it.

Anyway, that's my feel on torque, it's nice to have but over 3000 rpm in the S you don't really miss it.

I have had a 951 and a couple of 318's as well. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. The Porsche always needed something. It wasn't terribly expensive, more of a pain in the arse.

The S2000 is much tighter and more fun to drive. Its not as fast as the 951 but I bet it would hold its own on track with the Porsche and its reliable.

Did I say it was reliable? You won't miss your Porsche for a minute.
