Default Would you buy an s2k in an auction?

I was wondering if anyone here has purchased there S in an Auction? what kind of auction? im considering buying one as ive seen some go for ridiculous prices. also, would you ever consider buying one in an auction or is it too risky? even with a decent carfax history. Thanks

I wouldn't. However, if I had access to a mechanic who knew the S2000 inside and out I might consider it.

Just because someone can't afford to make their payments doesn't mean they didn't give the car TLC while they owned it. It's likely they skimped on regular service, etc., but not necessarily. Besides, the S is a well-built car that holds up well as long as you keep the oil in it.

I dunno. That's my opin.

I wouldn't. A $2000 beater car yes, but not a $20,000 sports car.

Here is a part of the carfax from my last s2000:

11/12/1999 1,164 Auto Auction
Sold at auction
in Eastern Region
Listed as
a fleet vehicle

02/03/2000 1,336 Auto Auction
Sold at auction
in Eastern Region
Listed as a dealer vehicle

02/17/2000 Missouri
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Lees Summit, MO
Title #QT180466
Title issued or updated
New owner reported

06/22/2000 1,733 Kansas
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Title #K0832593
Title issued or updated
Loan or lien reported

I typically would discourage anyone from trying to buy a nice car from an auction because of the likelihood of big problems. However, as you can see above...I bought my last s2000 even though it was an auction vehicle. Your guess is as good as mine what happened in those first 1700 miles.

I didn't come to own it until it had 27k miles but the car was flawless for the 2 years I drove it.

I bought mine on EBay, but the seller was BMW of Austin, and I got a clean carfax plus test drive beforehand, plus remember the orig. owner posting about trading it in (he loved the car, not the dealer service). Car was almost as clean as new, and has been trouble-free. I wouldn't talk you out of it provided you can perform adequate due diligence in advance.

Chris, I don't think that's the kind of auction he meant (??)... I think he was referring to a repo.

So buying a car from auction is pretty much like buying used ,no? most auctions allow you to inspect car and sometimes even test drive.

No way I'd buy a repo. If they can't afford to make pmts., they prob. can't afford to maintain it &/or beat the hell out of it knowing that it's being taken away soon.

I bought my car with 2,270 miles on it. It was from a dealer who bought it from a repo auction. The drivetrain is perfect and has been flawless, I have 10,500 miles on it now. I did however find out later that it had paintwork done and I was not informed (and in fact lied to by the dealer) but that is another story.

If they repoed it with low miles i would go ahead and go for it.how much abuse can someone make with little miles.my decision would be based on mileage.

Peace
