At that point, I'd take a Miata (which still handles better) over the S.

Nonetheless, power has never been why I love the S2000.

wow, not liking the general attitude. but i would love the idea. but the op is aiming small. i was think about the same thing. i was thinking when this car gets old i would buy a new car and just convert this to electric power. it is pretty simple idea. take out the engine and replace it with a about 16,000 cell battery most likely will be lithium b/c of easy production but not the greatest power to weight ratio. use a powerful electric motor of more than 300 torque and maybe 250 horses. electric motors and insane for their torque number. i have seen a motor that produces 120 torque and it is a size of a wheel, actually i think it was about 16 inches in diameter. so that is too small for my taste. and yes there are moving part in and electric motors. it's like a remote control car motor but a lot bigger. and most electric motor can spin well above 10K rpms, so a 4 gear tranny would be enough for a 300 torque motor and since it is not a gas motor, low rpms means crap to save power.

but this is a long and far dream. i am a techno head guy. and love to think of new ways of designing things. well, sounds like a good idea to have a electric s2k, but the motor the op wants is way too small for any ones taste, and it is literally small, and it weighs like 40-50 pounds.

lol, it's a hypothetical question, I'm not thinking of doing an engine swap. The numbers I just made up off the top of my head lol.

I was curious, because I didn't think that power was so important to others. It's a part of the fun for sure. Power wasn't the reason why I picked the s2000 in the first place either.
I just thought it might be a cool concept.

It's interesting people bring up the miata. I mean I would love my S2000 just as much if I woke up the next morning to find it only has 200hp, or 160hp. I don't want to turn this thread into a miata vs s2000 thread but it seems like the deal breaker is the hp difference. Well, at least then when people ask you if it's a miata you can say it sure is Timmy, it sure is.

Aren't Teslas over 100k?

Would you love your S2000 still if it was electric, had 160hp, 120torque, with 9k rpm (without the same vtec sound), same suspension, same transmission with soft top?
Not as much.

No. A 160HP electric motor wouldn't be enough for the added weight of all the batteries (assuming you'd want decent run time). 9,000 RPM is probably a bit low for a performance electric car and how/why would you keep the same transmission anyway?

14k rpm....who needs vtech?
vtech != VTEC
