The frame can be straightened and what is crushed can be cut off and a new bit welded on.
The insurance company *should* have totalled it, but they didn't. When they had already sunk too much money into the repairs to give up, then they found more work.
It does sound very low but he is a family friend. From our experience, he does quality work. We've taken our Audi TT, BMWs, and my dad's truck there before which needed the whole rear repaired because he lost control on the highway due to ice on road. The $2k is paying for the repairs if I supply the front/back bumpers, fenders, and head/tail lights. I will get pics up when there is any progress.
i had a tougher accident.. repaired my car, still have it.. no problems at all. even better than before! i agree with the few people who said that it can be fully repaired.. but i bet that would cost much in the us. im glad that in kuwait the labor cost is much cheaper

If you buy those parts new, I think you will find they cost $5K at least. You may be able to find them cheaper off a parts car somewhere.
$2K is not really doing you any favors. It only includes the labor and probably not the paint (the paint is going to be $2K). That's install parts you supply and prep for paint. It's of no benefit to you when they only quote on a fraction of the job and then come back later and say "well that estimate didn't include...".
Trust us. You are looking at $10K minimum. Get all the quotes you want but the proof will be in the invoice at the end not the estimate in the beginning. Enough of us have had work done to know what the real ballpark is.
They ALWAYS find something else wrong. My work started at 5K then magically after 6 weeks in the shop they "found other things" bringing the total to $7K Bear in mind this one fact:
I not only had $7K in body damage but I also took that car and put it back together with 4 rolls of duct tape in a strip plaza parking lot. Drove it 200 miles to the race tack. Passed tech inspection and drove it full out on the track for a full day setting the fastest time for an S2000 and humiliating rlaifatt by a 10th of a second. Then drove it another 200 miles home. That's $7K worth of pure front end damage. Compare your situation to mine then set your price.
The TRUTH is your car is worth more in parts right now than it is as a car. The resale value after you fix it will be equivalent to what you put into it to fix it. It is worth $0 as a road-going automobile. Part it out and buy another one or better yet strip it out, sell the parts and make it a track car. it's hard to hear but it is 100% true.

EEesh! No wonder you didn't have liability, it was probably 20,000+ a year!!

What a shady dude.
BTW: this should be posted in the Texas regional section to warn potential s2k buyers of this car.
Man some of you guys must still be wetting the bed or something to not be able to afford more than Liability or to have insurance rates that high. My 2 cents is if you can't afford full coverage on this car you probably should be driving something else...because you really can't afford the car if you can't afford the insurance that goes with it.
