Wrecked the car, what now?
So the other night, I was out at a buddies house watching the Caps hockey game, they won in OT with Ovechkin having 4 goals. After it was over, I was feeling pretty tired so I decided to drive to my parents house for sleep rather than my own house (25 min. shorter ride). I guess it didn't matter how short the ride was because after being on the road for 5.5 miles and less than 1 mile to go, I fell asleep at the wheel.
The car left the road on the passengers side stradling a curb between the pass. side and driver side tires. The full under carriage was beat up pretty bad. Atleast scared and scratched. The Frame and body weren't touched. The front bumper/lip and hood were the only externally damaged parts.
Unfortunately the oil pan was sheered off. I pretty much convinced the body shop to replace the motor, and the insurance company obligded. So, my car with 32000 miles will now have an 18000 mile 2005 engine. Basicly the word on the car after everything has been taken off and inspected from underneath is that the body/frame is perfect. Everything that needs to be replaced is considered bolt on parts. There's no straightening of any parts on the car. All new OEM merchandise will be paid for by my insurance company.
That said, will my car ever be the same? Will I notice the damage. The car was my baby. Garage kept and I have a binder with records of every maint. update, modification performed, receipts from buying anything from oil filters to exhaust systems.
IMO, if the car feels the slight bit difference, I will probably sell. Looking for $23000. I'll be looking to get an 08 S2000 CR GPW if that's the case.
Just looking to ask the community on their suggestions and inputs.

I have always had very bad problems falling asleep at the wheel. If I believed in a god, I would thank him for saving my ass on numerous occaisions, the number I have no idea. Good luck with your car and I hope your insurance isn't affected too much. Stay safe
If nothing was bent other then some bolt on parts I would expect the car to feel just as good when the bolt on parts are replaced.
Why do you need a new engine? Did you try and drive it home after the incident? Because if you turned off the engine after the crash it should be fine.
You can find 05s that have never been in an accident for less than $23k. Since you are replacing the engine your car will not have matching VINs which means it is similar to a salvage title car in price IMHO.

Man I feel really bad for you having that happen. I've been in a position where I had to fight falling asleep on the interstate at 2am.. its mentally impossible. I fell asleep numerous times and went off the side of the road only to save it. I know this is always said, but its true: Pull over or let someone else drive. If you must, call somebody on the phone and conversate with them, that seems to do the trick.
About the new feel of your car.. if the inspection was as methodical as you make it seem, I don't think you'll feel a difference at all! Just take pictures and keep good records of the accident not being *that* bad, and it may help you when it comes time to sell. Give your new engine some TLC, and maybe a fresh coat of wax for the paint, all it'll be just like the day you bought her!
Drive safe everyone!

imo, your car will never be near the same to you. i wasnt nearly as "obsessive" with my car and after i ran into my garage (just needed to replace the bumper and headlight) i never thought of it the same and checked the paint from every angle each time i looked at it even though there wasnt any differences visible.
