Well, I've been talking with the dealer and my insurance and they are in the process of getting things fixed. I wanted to ask you all something, though. When I was getting the car towed, the tow truck guy said it looked like the cv joint was broken. Now when I look at the estimate from the adjuster, they are replacing the rear knuckle, lower control arm, and rear suspension arm. Assuming I am reading the estimate right, could someone help me to understand what all these parts are? Do these all COMPRISE the cv joint, maybe? Forgive my ignorance, but I've never really understood all that much in terms of suspensions.

Thanks, guys.

Yeah...hopefully you don't have custom wheels that aren't in stock anywhere right now.

Well, here's the latest. First of all, if there is anyone in Florida who has State Farm, I highly recommend leaving!! I have had them for the past 3 years while living in Colorado and they were great. But in Florida they suck. Maybe I should clarify -- the CLAIMS office in florida sucks.

After my service advisor at the dealership contacts me to go over the adjuster's estimate (which I hadn't yet received) we both realize that State Farm is trying to replace my right rear wheel with a reconditioned wheel. Now keep in mind I just had all 4 wheels replaced about 3 months ago when they were stolen from the car.

So I say uh uh, no way! I called the claims office and after I explain to them that under no circumstances are they going to replace a 3 month old wheel with a reconditioned one they, say ok. Or so I thought. Meanwhile I receive the original estimate along with the check, and I realize it's not enough to cover the price of the new wheel (which the dealership has already ordered). In addition, I have also noticed some scratches on the front wheel as well and brought this to the attention of the claims office prior as well. She says she'll have the adjuster come back out and take a look.

So I call claims back to ask them what about the check for 1) the difference in the amount for the used and the new rear wheel and 2)for the new front wheel (which the service advisor told me the adjuster gave him the ok to get as well). Claims tells me they have issued me another check for like $2??, and that this is for both the wheels. I say I think you've made an error, as a new front wheel alone cost in excess of $400! She says no, its for both. After argueing for a while, getting placed into voicemail after asking for manager, and then calling back again and speaking with someone else, I am told that the rear and front wheels are only going to be used. I said I was already authorized to get NEW wheels, and that's what the dealer has ordered. Like a smart ass, she proceeds to try and read me the part of my policy that says they can use recond. parts.

Again I asked for a manager and at the same time got on my cell and called my old agent back in colorado. They were completely understanding and offered to go to bat for me. No sooner had I hung up the phone than the lady at claims says there is no need to have them call, that they have decided to "Let" me have new wheels, front and back. All she needs is for the dealer to fax them a statement with the difference of the costs.

Frustrated after my hour and a half on the phone now (but relieved for the time being) I call my advisor to let them know what's going on. He says that's strange, I spoke to claims directly a week ago and they gave me the auth to new on everything. THEN WHY ARE THEY ONLY CUTTING ME CHECKS FOR USED COSTS?

This is how ass backwards State Farms claims is in Florida.

Well, all of my parts are in now (no thanks to their adjuster) and the shop is working on getting her fixed now. My advisor couldn't understand how the adjuster could miss a broken rotor on her estimate, but she did. But they caught it and had the part overnighted to get there quick so they can try and get her fixed quick. I have to say the guys at the dealership have been pretty good so far, amidst having to deal with dumb asses at State Farm.

Sorry this was so long of an update, but I really had to vent. Just something to keep in mind for those who might be considering State Farm Auto in the state of Florida. Be AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!

Talk to y'all later, and thanks for lending an ear...

It's actually at Wilde Sun Honda. So far they've been pretty good. But I suspect it'll probably be a little while longer until she's done, and then I'll probably have to wait until I get all my checks from State Farm. I'm not going to front all the money to the dealership to get my car back until I have in hand all the money SF is supposed to be sending me. My luck I'd take delivery and then they'd change their mind again.

My car will be at Sun Honda today until around noon having the alarm adjusted and I had asked my girlfriend who drove it there this morning to check on your car but I just read your update, I am glad the dealership is helping you out, they are a good bunch of guys and if you have any problems you can always drop me a line!
ing State Farm, that is who I have - I can't even imagine they could find "reconditioned" parts for our cars, where the hell do they find them?

Hey, Nick. Good to hear from ya. Well, they kept saying that's all they were going to pay for, and Mark had originally tried to find used, but was unable to so he ordered new anyways. Again, they (SF) are just all screw up.

and you should have your gf take a look at her when she's there today -- believe me you can't miss her. If she's not in the shop, she's probably still in the back left corner of the lot. A good example of how not to drive when roads are wet

Baldy74,

That's a good question, concerning 100%. My question is how do you know if things are back at 100%, especially if you don't take the car to the track (more measures).

I wrecked mine (hydroplaned into a divider at 70mph)..(didn't even hit the breaks it was so quick) and I "think" the shop did a good job at restoration. My question would be:

How do you measure the front and rear suspension systems. Most of the other times I can document either being present before the wreck or after...

As for me, I get a slight feeling that the rear is starting to slide out a bit more now than before...however, that could be just my perception, perhaps from pushing just a bit harder. The only cues I can trust are those inside (ie how hard do I grip/sway/roll as I turn...compared to what I used to).

I guess I'm not the only one who drives by feel/sight in most turns, as opposed to watching the tach/speedo, thus I don't have many hard figures to compare to. Any insights are always welcomed.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry so much about the reconditioned wheel thing. When I was hit last year, I needed a new front wheel. The insurance company authorized only a reconditioned wheel, but the guy at the body shop told me that if the reconditioned wheel didn't look perfect, he'd reject it and order a new one. It looked perfect. I was happy.

And to nzaizar, it's easy to find reconditioned parts for S2000's, perhaps you didn't notice how many people on this board alone are wrecking them? Every time an S2000 is totaled, the remaining undamaged parts go into the spare parts bin.
