Default WTD and Cops?

Hey all, after seeing many topics related to the annual Wake the Dragon run, is this some kind of organized legal event? I mean this place seems to be a very popular place, it has its own internet site, many car clubs and motorcycle clubs hold events there annualy, and it has 300 something curves in 11 miles!! Arent you guys afraid of getting pulled over and cited for speeding through the canyons?? I mean you would think since this place is so popular there has to be tons of crashes and accidents related to these types of runs so I would assume this place would be swarming with cops. I know all the canyons over here are so ridden with cops its no fun anymore.

I just read an article about WTD in a recent car magazine (I forget which one, I get so many), and they interviewed the local police chief. He said his attitude is basically hands off. He only goes after the really dangerous drivers, doesn't care to patrol the road too often, and responds to accidents when they occur. I guess they don't need speedtrap revenue

We had alot of police presence in the last WTD. They did not ticket anyone though. Just a few stern words. The local economy depends greatly on people enjoying the roads. If the police chase everyone off there would be serious problems.

Plus it is what it is. Cops know that, and the ones that have sports cars or bikes go there and do the same thing. Besides.... once you do it, you are willing to accept a ticket if neccessary !

There aren't any driveways on the Dragon (nor property), so you're only going to damage yourself and maybe another driver. I think most of the accidents only involved one vehicle.

The Dragon is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) tourist attractions in that portion of Tennessee and North Carolina. Everytime I've been out there with cops they've only pulled people over for crossing over into the oncoming traffic lane.

It's not like you can go 100mph on that road anyway. You are basically in 2nd and 3rd gear the entire way. I've seen police activity the couple of times I was there, but it's basically for those who are being an ass.

Keep you car under control and chances are that you will not get pulled over.

Crossing the Double Yellow, Load exhauest, Drifting, or giving the Bird to a Po Po will get you a Free Pass to the Court House.

Yeah, I think it was in Car and Driver or MotorTrend, but the article on WTD said that the police basically let people do what they want on that road, and just try to provide assistance if it is needed (ie. an accident or something). That's actually pretty cool of them.

cops are pretty decent up there unless you drive like an idiot. It is near impossible for them to radar you because of all the turns. I've seen them pull people over for tires sqealing or crossing the double yellow.

I think modifry got a ticket for his tires making noise at the most recent wtd. :-(
