Default wtf is this? (Dial up warning: big pics)

Driving back from the beach yesterday about 30 minutes into my trip, i noticed this white discoloring of my display just by my odometer. i thought it was the sun hitting it at a funny angle and tried to "shade" it with my hand...no luck... then i was thinking it was some sort of smudge or discoloring on the surface and tried to clean it off with a cloth...still no luck... so i decided to take pictures and post them here in hopes that this group of smart peeps would be able to figure it out....
then something strange happened. the smudge got smaller and smaller until it disappeared. WTF??? i was getting worried for a bit cos i had just hit 36k miles and the thought through my mind was, "great, now ill have to pay for a new console instead of getting a free one under warrantee..."

anybody got any ideas?

I'm willing to bet condensation. Happened several times to me, but the most noticeable is when we went from a 20 degree day last winter to a 60 degree day, and I went around topless. It bothered me, but I don't think it's anythin to worry about.
