Default Years from now... tires?

Sorry for the pun. :-)

Seriously. I love the stock S02s for handling. It's looking as if they won't be manufactured forever, though.

I plan on keeping my car for many years. It's not my daily driver, so I like putting the best possible handling tires (street) I can.

What do the members think will be "the sweet spot" for tire replacement for this car after the S02s aren't available? What is the best performance/handling tire OTHER than S02s today?

(Are the AP2 stock tires also called 'S02s', just *-17 ?)
I'm thinking if I had to switch now, I would buy 17" rims and go with the S02s if they would be the best performance.

(I'd rather have less standing weight toward the edge of the tire...performance over looks...but would go 17" if that appears to be the future sweet spot for this car.)

Advice appreciated!

If it's not your daily driver, consider getting Toyo RA-1's. They are about the same price as S-02's, but much much much better in grip, and comparable in treadwear too. These things wear like steel. Only downsides are that it literally sucks up everything on the road, so it's much easier to get a puncture.

The stock 04+ tires are Bridgestone RE050's. IMO they are significantly better than SO2's or SO3's (And YES I've had both) in both dry and wet conditions. I don't know if they come in a good 16" fitment for our cars. You do know there is a "Tire and Wheel forum" right?

OE replacement tires dot not get phased out like common size tires.

Just take a look at RE-010 for NSX (15") or OE replacement tires for limited production vehicles.

Don't worry about it, just enjoy the car.

I have Kuhmo Ecsta's on my car....they work alright, not SO2 performance, but a little longer tread life. Decent grip, and a decent price. Next pair will probably be Pirelli's or another set of SO2's.

There's bigger things to worry about than whether S02's will be around 5-10 years from now...

The MY 00'-03 have the suspension tuned to run B.S. S-02's anything else may change the handling for better or worse. they will make the OEM S0-2 for ten years i'm told. by that time there will be a better 16" available that i'm sure of. so don't worry.
