Yet another hardtop question
I was just wondering- after one has the OEM hardtop installed how hard is it to take the hard top off and still use the soft top? If I wanted to put a hardtop on my car for weekends (so I don't get my soft-top slit with a razor...) will it be a total PITA?
Thanks

Or you can build a hoist - that is where mine stayes most of the time. I use it to remove and install the HT as well as to store it. Below is the post we made when some of the crew came over and helped install the hoist. I have since removed the PVC part and replaced the rope that holds the top with plastic coated cable since it does not stretch. The stretch in the rope was an issue. Total I am in the hoist for under $100.00 not including pizza for the install crew.

One person hardtop removal w/o a hoist is fairly straightforward in a Miata if you don't mind stepping on the seats. Dunno if this translates to an S2k:
1. Unbolt hardtop
2. Climb into the car with one foot on each seat.
3. Grab the hardtop on each side
4. Stand up with the top over your head and walk out of the car.

I actually prefer diving with the hardtop and have only had it on/off about five times. I find it stressful to remove and install...it requries two people and I worry about the paint. The actual installation is straightforward.
