Default You people must be terrible drivers

I did my research and I'm ready to purchase a S2000 until I checked the cost of car insurance. $850 per 6 months according to USAA! My plans have changed. According the insurance company the S2000 doen't cost more than other cars to fix, it's the high number of accidents involving S2000 drivers.

USAA is an okay insurance company, not the best, but perhaps more honest than others. I did some cost comparison for me - 60 years old, no accidents (my fault) and no tickets and 3 other cars (2 drivers). Here are the cost comparisons for 6 months of insurance through USAA.

2006 S2000 $850
2006 BMW Z4 $391
2004 BMW M3 $540
2006 Miata $333
2006 Corvette $547

I recently sold a Superformance Cobra and the insurance cost was $450 per year although I could only drive it 5000 miles per year.

I hate it when insurance companies tell me I really don't want to drive a specific car. I would rather spend the money on the car.

Anyway I hope everyone here pays less than they want me to pay. I have owned 4 Hondas in the last ten years but unfortunatly I will not own an S2000.

Drive carefully!
Tom

doesnt sound all that bad really. I suppose it depends on your age, but I pay 900 every 6 months, but I am about to switch where i will be paying 700 every 6 months.

Sounds like you didn't do your research well enough.

23, clean license, and good student discount: $1650/yr through Liberty Mutual with $1000 deductible.

The s2k is in the same insurance category as a Corvette. :-\

I'm 36 and pay less than that for two cars.
Looks like you have accidents on your
record, even though they may not show
as at fault they see it as "it takes two to tango".

This. The reality is it doesn't pay to be young and own a sports car. Insurance companies don't trust anyone under the age of 30 nor those with accidents on their record.

They are dinging you for being a old man(your 60) who wants to drive a sports car. I'm nowhere near as old as you, live in Southern California and my yearly on the S2000 is nowhere near your quote.

Did they offer you some lube when they quoted you?
