Thumbs up Your $.02 on first mods!

I think that after 2 months of reading thread after thread I have finally decided to go with the Comptech intake and a Spugen exhaust. I just wanted to get some opinions on the two. Pros and cons. I'm thinking of the Comptech intake because it is safe as far as hydroloc goes and attractive. I was curious of the sound of it and if it is worth the cash. I have only heard sound clips of the Spugen exhaust but it sounds like what I have been looking for because its fairly quiet and low at low rpm's but opens up nicely at vtec. I really don't won't an exhaust thats too loud. I like it loud when I put my foot down but no drone. I know that I won't see any gains in power with these but I would like to know your opinions on my choices. I had also considered the Invidia exhaust but its look didn't do anything for me. I'm trying to stay under a grand for the exhaust though, just can't decide which Spugen to get. Not sure of the sound difference between oval, round, titanium and stainless.

Thanks for any info,

Mrcln1

P.S. Sorry to have run on but I'm an information junky, have to have it all and give it all.

I'd love to share my knowledge on exhausts/intakes, but I don't know much about this stuff. I'm also curious about what people think.

Good choices. I prefer the spugen rounds. And if you are into titanium get that version. But it is your car so get what you like.

I wouldn't go with either.

1) The Comptech intake (like others) is expensive and won't add anything other than a nice sound and look. Why pay that much for no performance gains? If I were to go with an intake, I'd go with Mugen, J's Racing or just use the Spoon Air Duct with the stock box (better quality, weight savings, and better throttle response and less heat). I, personally, will not be upgrading my intake unless there is a definite need or advantage. Sure, I like the looks and sound of an intake, but in the S2K, they offer little performance gain. Although, I do love the look of the AEM because it really opens up your engine compartment.

2) Although the Spugen looks good, sounds good and is priced right, I've heard bad things about them rusting, as many are only coated with a protective layer that easily gets scraped off. If they had a better quality exhaust, I'd go with them, as I did like how it looked and sounded.

For the price you're looking to spend, maybe you should also look into buying something slightly used, but better quality, such as the Fujitsubo, Comptech, Mugen, Invidia (it's loud!) or T1R. I'm still looking into exhausts for my S2K, and I'm most likley going to go with the Amuse R1 single, as it's titanium, lightweight, sounds great, adds a few horsepower, and is high quality (and yes, expensive). I'm still looking at others, but as of now, the Amuse is still my first choice. With an exhaust, I think getting something that will add a couple horsepower and be lighter than stock is the main thing to look for. To me, the best exhausts out there are the Amuse, Top Secret and a few others.

Some other good mod choices include the Mugen thermostat, fan switch and radiator cap, Rick's xbrace, better tires, a supercharger ( yes, this is a costly mod! But it adds the most for the money), and driving school or numerous SCCA track events (autocross). And always use top quality fluids in your S2K (LE607, high quality synthetic oil, Honda fluids, etc.).

my first mods were actually:

-- JDM clear sidemarkers
-- Used Weapon R Intake
-- Used Weapon R STB
-- Used HKS Hi-Power dual exhaust
-- Led clusters for the side makers

I know there are better intakes than mine and I have not heard many exhausts besides the Invidia (loud) and mine so I can not speak for the items you want but besides rims and tires (expensive first mod) I think you are on the right track

I have mostly based my exhaust choise on the videos that blessed has posted. Are these a pretty accurate interpretation of what this exhaust sounds like?

Is there a difference in the way that the oval, round, and titanium sound?

Speak of mods, out of all of these, exhaust, intake, etc...which one is do it yourself, or do you have to take it to the dealer or shop to have them done? thanks
