Default is your top fully retracted?

went to honda dealer tonight to buy a civic and saw two 2005 s2000 with tops down. i noticed that their tops retract further than mine. its not much but noticeable. i have not used my toneau cover but looks like its not gonna fit properly. anyone know anything about this?

the elastic bands wear out, mine are shot to hell...but I'm not too worried because I want to go hardtop soon and remove the soft-top. I think they realistically only last about a year.

Modifry sells new ones that will bring it back all the way

I just use my hand to push the last bar back because thats what is preventing it from going down all the way

BUT THE NEXT STEP IN THE PROCESS IS A RIPPED UP SOFT TOP!

Ask me how I know!!! I ended up with 2 holes the size of my fist in the top and completely demolished latch mechanism on the passenger's side.

See this thread as well.

according to modifry's website, procedure to fix this is a lot of hassle. drilling and readjusting rivots is required. dont want none of that done on my new car.

Some new cars don't have the fold set in yet. When I got mine it didn't want to go down fully. A few weeks in the sun and it helped alot. I also manually pushed the glass further back so it could set down and rest in that position in the sunlight.

Also, if it's cold outside or just cool, I've noticed that the top does not like to go down all the way. If yours is only 5 months old, and hasn't gotten any better, I'd let the dealer worry about it.

I'm pretty sure the ones he sells come with pins that just slip into the existing rivets. I installed one of these fixes on a friend's S, but I opted to cut off the old rivets and rerivit the new straps so it looked OEM. It wasn't a big deal though, maybe 10 minutes with a dremel.

My '01's top worked perfectly fine. It always retracted all the way, even after it was 3 years old.

Can't comment on my '04 since I run a hardtop 365 days a year.
