Your Top Speed
fastest in a car i've been was around 180, thats where the tach stopped. .. it was in my old supra TT.
on a motorcycle i've hit 187 indicated which is probably about 173ish real life speed, 1000RR full tuck in race suit.
s2000 i havent gone that high, most of my fun comes in the lower speed turns

If aircraft count, I've ridden in a B-52 running flat out, and a few fighter jets running close to flat out. However, that's nothing like going fast with your butt a few inches off the road, so it souldn't count.
Bikes shouldn't count either. My FJ-1100 would hit 145 in nothing flat and be back down to 60 even quicker, so short burst of crazy speed were easy (and all too common). With a car the speed comes up (and scrubbs off) so much more slowly that there is no way you can use the speed the way you can on a bike.
I say aircraft and motorcycles don't count.

05 r6 tops out at ~165ish in the most ideal conditions. i have owned a f4i, 954rr, 1000rr and Gsxr600. the top speeds you will see on a bike are about 175 tops on the liter bikes and 160 on the 600. a 3000lb car would need about 800 rwhp to beat/pull a modern day literbike. it's pointless to have a bike geared to go that high so it would be much better to get some sprockets and regear to get better acceleration if you want cheap speed
i would only recommend this after you have ridden a lot and are experienced in all situations. just my 2 cents.

i pinned the needle at 140 in my MR2 on the I-5 but that was years ago.
I've yet to get that stupid in the S. Ive gone 100 or so a few times but daily driving doesn't cause for such events to happen often.

s2k: 140+ around St Louis area, after only just drove it off the lot (used) day before
bike: redline shut dwn in 5th gear at 155, they are capable 170-180, one more gear?
both situations things were completely stable but question the need to do this, other than to verify performance. straight line speed is meaningless, better to get lo track times, knee down canyon days.

The fastest I have ever been was to the top of 5th gear once, shifted to 6th and was on it for a few seconds. I was concentrating so much i'm not even sure what my speed was exactly, but I think the speedometer was in the 140's.
