Default Your true feeling on body shops

So i was told that the original amount of time that my car would be in the shop would be around 2 weeks. i said thats fine, (just want everything done right). i dont want to be the annoying over protective car enthusiast that calls every two days asking how everything is going, so i dont bother calling or stopping in at all.

three weeks go by and i get no phone call. so i get a ride up there figuring that it was done or least very close to it just to find that its "being worked on" and i cant see it right now. I say "come again" and laugh a little then seriously ask to see my car. he tells me again that he would really rather me not see it right now and come back later in the week.

I tell him theres no reason i cant see my car and that they havent called me at all even to up date me on what been going on. i remind him how i showed the courtesy of leaving him alone longer then asked to so that he could do his work, just be told that i need to leave. Dont want to piss off the guy working on my car so i leave.

This, needless to say, pissed me off a bit. I go another week, no call no show. A couple of days later i stop in again asking to see it. He gets up sighing and walks around me to the door. I forgot how much of any inconvienence i am. I walk to the back to see the most beatiful thing just sittin there with beads of water dripping down her courvacious body. they just finished washing her and were about to start the buffing. I do the walk around to notice that i have 4 brand new tires????

Before i could get too excited i reach the back of car and notice that im missng those lovely chrome rings inside that AP1 MY03 tail light i remember having. So i ask,"why do i have two different tailights?". He seemed baffeled that some one could notice the difference. This leads me to wonder what other details did they over look and think i wouldnt notice.

I now have to wait another "couple" of days till the light comes in untill i can drive my car. i ask "what the hell man?", let me have the car when you get the light ill come pick it up and give you the old one back. He said he cant let me do that.

I havent drivin anything in a month and a half, im going out of my mind and i dont even know when im getting it back or what happened to it while in the shop.

If youve made it throught reading all this (sorry, i have to vent to people that actually understand the relationship shared with a car) then give your thoughts on it. has any one else had stuff like this happen to them.

Dont like them in general. I just got my car back a month ago and the paint is chipping really bad and non OE bolts were used and some of the tabs were broken off the grill .

Some do a really good job, but usually charge a high price for thier work.

Good luck

hopefully you took it too a high end body shop that knows what they're doing and not a "direct repair" shop.

I work at a shop... here's my input:

#1 alot of times the shop doesn't want you to see your car because, truth be told... it's gonna look 10x worse before it gets better. I would cry if I saw my car in the shape that some of these cars we have coming in are in before they get put back together. I've seen the looks on peoples faces when they see their car cut in half... not pretty, but trust us, it will be put back to perfect by the time it leaves!

#2 a lot of times a car will take longer than 1st expected, especially once they start digging into it... a supplement (more work above the estimate) may be needed. if it's going through insurance, the shop has to wait for the insurance to come out again to approve additional work. they cant continue work on the car til the insurance co. sends someone back out... sometimes this can take up to a couple of days (yes it does suck!).

#3 sucks about them messing up the taillights... but mistakes do happen on small details like that. especially if something like that varies on a year of two of the same model car.

an another note... the shop should be updating you at least once, if not twice a week! that's BAD customer service on their part. I've dealt with crazies who need to know EVERY DAY what's going on. ummm, we ordered parts... 2 days later... parts are here! next day... parts are being primed, are in paint, are baking. etc, etc...

hopefully they'll fix everything they need too! and a good shop will guarantee their work!

i hit a deer with my rsx and brought it in to a shop. They fixed it on time and i got it back the day the said i would. But the lines between the hood and finder were no ware near straight i got some bs about how it wasnt their fault acura sent them the finder like that and if i wanted it changed i had to buy a new fender. i take it home and find that the bumper is sticking out under the light so i take it back to them they try and fix it. When i get it back the line between the hood and fender is fixed.. thought they couldnt do that??? the bumper looked good but by the time i got it home the bumper popped back out so i had to take it back. i took it back 3 times and the more i looked at the car the more i could see wrong. They did a horrible job of blending the paint their were some dents in the fender that was supposed to be new the door didnt line up right with the fender... so i sold it and now have an s2000
