[B]Don't know how you would "save" money by selling a car you already own (if that's the case) and buying a more expensive one. Well, I guess I can work out scenarios where that's the case. But not in most, and not here. However, if it's to keep you from spending even more money on a Viper, by all means do so
I meant sell the s and save some money over the next couple months and go buy the z06 with the money I save and the money from my s

i think is not worth to trade in a S2000 for Z06.
the bulid quality is a problem
if you can just keep both, or wait for the C6 and see the improvement

Oil consumption on the 2001? That is fixed on the 2002 and it never caused any real damage anyway.
I am really interested in the build quality issues you know about , because i have heard of none.

I have the same dilema. I can't really aford both. I mean I could, but I dont' consider living paycheck to paycheck, or leasing, or barely scraping by as affording a car. I am going to keep the S2k for a while...it really is a great car. The Z06 would be fun, but not that much more fun to warrant me selling the S2000. I am going to stick with S2k for now and see what kind of cars come out in the next few years. The Z06 deppreciates so fast...buying a new one isn't a good idea anyway. I have seen 2001's for sale at 38k now.
I am a sports car fan at heart, not a honda guy. So to me the honda vs chevy thing holds no water. I like performance first and foremost....and the Z06 delivers in amazing amounts.

For the S2000:
The ultimate performance bargain under $35K, the S performs as well or better as most sports cars costing nearly twice as much. Its combination of light weight, advanced suspension, high-revving engine, 50/50 weight balance, and (most of all) neutral handling balance make it as exciting and rewarding to drive on the racetrack as any other production car, period. The feeling enjoyed by the driver is that of "oneness" with the car as it responds near-telepathically to every control input.
For the Z06:
The ultimate performance bargain under $55K, the '02 Z06's numbers are matched only by a few rarefied cars like the 996 Turbo or 360 Modena, which are 2X and 3X the Z06' price, respectively. The monstruous torque and horsepower of the 5.7L V8 make it a stoplight-racing champ in addition to a phenomenal track car. The feeling enjoyed by the driver is that of having huge reserves of power to direct to his will, pounding the road into submission.
I voted to keep the S since, depending on your preference, there are equally good reasons to go one way or the other, but keeping the S saves you some significant $$ (20K or so?). As others have said, ideally I'd take both since their personalities are so complementary.
Cheers,
John
