00 s2000 ap1 tranny replace with ap2
hey everyone i wanted to know and ask i have an ap1 s2000. I need my transmission replaced and i wanted to know if the ap2 2004 tranny can be directly swapped with my transmission? is the 2004 ap2 tranny compatible with my ap1 s2000? all your help and comments are appreciated. thank you.
Yup exact fit. I have one in mine.
few differences:
One dfference is the output flange. You'll need to use the flange off your AP1 trans. (flanges use different size driveshaft bolts)
Other is gearing...the AP2 has a different reduction gear ratio, so your speedo will be off a little...not much. A yellow box will fix it.

Hey, thanks hecash. That clarifies it. For a little further clarification, 1st-4th gears themselves are the same, but because the secondary gear reduction is changed it results in shorter overall ratio's.
But some interesting discrepancies...I've got the 2000-2006 factory service manual, and it states:
AP2 secondary gear reduction ratio is 1.208, not 1.206
5th gear changed from 0.979 to 0.943, not 0.971 to 0.942
6th gear changed from 0.810 to 0.763, not 0.811 to 0.763
And also, how does the Primary reduction ratio affect this? It was changed from Direct 1:1, to 1.208

Bottom line: ratio coming out of the back of the trans.
1-4 gear, shorter.
5th barely shorter.
6th taller.
Speedo will be wrong in all gears.
Speedo reads off the countershaft, not the mainshaft.
Speed reading is directly related to rear wheel/driveshaft speed. Since the reading comes from the countershaft (running at a different speed because of the different final reduction ratio) the speedo will be off.
