ACutally that will not work either. The receiver is part of the system and it needs to go too. So you would need the ECU, Key, Key Cylinder and immobilizer receiver.
Really? You couldn't just keep both keys on your key ring? The 2000 key for turning on the car, and the 2003 key to make the 2003 ecu happy?

I was wondering how this would work. Even if you got the key with the new ECU, that key wouldn't match the cylinder on your car so your only recourse is to pair your existing key with the new ECU. Am I correct on this?

Only the key and ecu are coded, not the cylinder and receiver.

If you buy an ecu, you need a key to match or you need to go to the dealer and have it re written.

Please forgive me for being dense, but are you saying that all S2000 keys are cut the same and the only thing that actually prevents the engine from turning is the transponder?

Keys are cut to the tumblers in the ignition switch, all keys are different. Without the correct cut key you can't turn the ignition on.

shoot. I also have an 01, and bought an 03 ECU. Can i Locksmith be able to do this as well? I have a friend who owns his own locksmith shop and has done multiple keys for me and also made copies for my old MB. The only thing he needed when he made me a spare was proof that i owned the car for verification.

solution:

You could ask for a blank key from the ECU seller, with the key "emulating (? for lack of better word?)" the original key. Places like walmart have keys that will do this.

Next, you get that key blank cut to YOUR key cylinder. It should work.
