Default '04 driveshaft - '03 differential

Howdy

I tried a search... no luck.

I'm installing an '04 motor, tranny, and driveshaft in a pre '04 S2k. I'm buying the driveshaft since the '04 tranny won't match up with the pre '04 driveshaft.

The question is...

Will they match up at the rear end? ('04 shaft - '03 pumpkin) If not, is there an adapter made for this, or will I need to go with an '04 pumpkin too?

Thanks for your help.

You will have to change the flange on the Diff to mount up to the MY04 drive shaft. That means the pinion will need to be reset in the diff, becasue the pinion nut has to be removed in order to change this flange out.

I'd rather swap the flange off the 04 trans for the 00-03 flange and use the early propshaft. That way you don't take the risk of screwing up the pinion preload.

Thanks...

We're now thinking of sticking with the '03 tranny/driveshaft/pumpkin and going with 4.57 gears instead.

Does the '03 tranny match up OK with the '04 motor?

Any opinions on the combo?

The 03/04 trans are interchangeable.

FYI

I will be installing an MY04 Transmission to an MY02 Engine, Prop shaft and diff. I will be swapping the output flange on the transmission. remeber the gearing and syncro's changed in the MY04 transmission and so far have proved to be less problematic.

You might want to reconsider

hey drew, i'm going with an 04 engine/transmission/diff also. I'm going to be using the 04 propeller shaft with the 04 diff tho. Keep us updated. I'll let you know how my 04 swap is going too.

I just found out today that the 04 tranny, and 04 propeller shaft will work with 00-03 differentials. no need to change any pieces with this setup. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info John, but we ended up going with the '03 tranny, shaft and diff., but using 4.57 gears. We decided that the '04 tranny with a 4.57 rear end would have required way too much shifting.

Now if I can only get HT Guy to refund our $1000 core deposit on the diff we returned to them back in May! Ganley has broken nearly every promise they made; won't make the mistake of ever doing business with them again.
