Default '05 question

ive had my car for about a month now and whenever i do a cold start and wait a few minutes, the car grinds going into 2nd gear. sometimes it will go away after a while but sometimes it will keep grinding for a good 20 minutes. should i be worried? or is it just because its cold?

also, when i turn the wheel completely while letting off the clutch in 1st and slowly accelerating, the car makes a really weird sound in the rear. never heard it on any other car i've driven before. it's like a low pitch weird rubbing sound and it only does it when im making a u-turn or somethin in a parking lot in the low rpm's of 1st.

thanks.

Welcome and congrats on the new purchase!

20 mins seems like a long time, my 05 tries to grind into 2nd or pop out of 3rd during the first 5 mins of driving, but after that it's fine.

Just take your time when first shifting with a cold tranny, and give it some time to warm up.

As for your noisy rear-end (inject pun here), that I can't explain. Check through the archives on this site and you should find answers to most of your questions. If not, take it in!

Cheers,
Diane

That's exactly what I experience in my '05, but I thought the sound when turning was coming from the front. Anyway, just shift really slow into second when it's cold. I usually put in the clutch, pull it out of first, then put it into second. Kind of stagger the process, don't just throw it into second right away. I make the whole shift into second last about 1.5 - 2 seconds and I usually hear minimal, if any grinding sounds.

Same here, just shift slow in to second. I will sometimes stay in first for my first few stoplights to get things warmed up before I have to shift much.

I have a whining noise from my rear when going slow (like 10mph) on tight left turns too. Could it be the limited slip in the diff?
