'05 S2000 Electrical Gremlin
We've been having an electrical issue with our 2005 S2K for the last 4 months or so. It all started when we had to replace the battery last summer. After replacing the battery, the car dash would flicker occasionally. I was wondering if my eyes were playing tricks on me until one day the car cut out after lifting on the accelerator slowly cruising down our street. it would never completely die, but seemed like you cut the ignition for a second and then turned it back on. After that it seemed do only do it shortly after leaving the house when it was cold.
We took it to our local Honda dealer (Arrowhead Honda). They could only get it to act up once after having it for a week. They said they had a similar issue with a civic and that it was either the ignition switch or the fuse box under the hood. So we took it home and I bought the ignition switch first and replaced it. Seemed fine for a couple days then it started again. I drove it for a while longer and it seemed to get worse. It seemed to happen mostly when you would let off the accelerator or were sitting at a light. The check engine and EPS light would come on each time it happened.
Also occasionally we would try to use the key fob to unlock the doors, but nothing worked. Opened the door, no lights or anything. Put the key in and turn it on, everything would come on again.
I bought the fuse box for under the hood and replaced that. Again it was fine for a couple days, but it started back up. My wife video taped what happened on her way home just after leaving work.

At the end of the video, everything dies and the flasher starts flashing very fast, but the indicators aren't working along with the whole dash. Then they just came on again with the blinkers working correctly again.
So, I got in the car to take it back to the dealer, started it and it did the exact same thing that is shown in the video. At the dealer they were able to duplicate the same thing thats in the video. Since then, they called Honda and got instructions on what equipment to hook up to figure out what the issue is. The have only been able to get it to cut out one other time. Based only on the info from that info, they say its a couple panels in the gauge cluster. Its gonna cost over $1600 just in parts. Then they said they would have to make sure it was calibrated. I'd rather not spend about $2000 or more just to find out that wasn't it again.
Anyone else ever seen an issue like this?? The car has a certified Honda warranty, but it doesn't cover the electrical of course. Any suggestions?? I'm about ready to drive this thing off a cliff!!
Thanks,
Greg
