As observed in an earlier post, if everything is flickering it could be the alternator (actually the voltage regulator built into the alternator) but if only the gauges are flickering, then it's a bad ground. Turn on your dome light - does it flicker just the same as the cluster?

 

No, the dome light doesn't flicker at all.

 

If the dome light doesn't flicker, it's not an alternator problem.

 

my gauge cluster flickers too and also the radio turns off and turns back on. what could it be? help!

 

Flickering dash is due to a bad rectifier inside the alternator. Car will charge as normal.

Dash is sensitive to this. not the dome light or any other light in the car. It's not a loose connection.

Change the rectifier and your dash will be fine.

 

thank you Bill! I was starting to freak out cuz it would flicker more frequently as I drive. does the rectifier also affect the radio?
