Default 07 motor in my02

Ok so long story short for those who are going to ask why waste the money doing this but... I got a good price on a 2007 longblock and my block is shot on my f20. So at first I thought the only difference was the DBW but later found out about the 07 head being different.

Now my question is should this setup run properly?

07 bottom end mated with a 02 head??
In doing this I plan on keeping the 02 ecu and tuning it with a apexi afc neo because I know the 02 ecu runs really lean I guess.
I also want to keep the ap1: intake mani fuel rail, injectors etc. because none of that came on the f22 I received. I also want to keep my ap1 cams too.

I also want to order a Helm service manual while doing this. Do I have to order a 2007 manual and a 2002 manual? Or is every year covered in the newer edition? Just another concern before I spend an extra $75 on a book.

Any snags I should run into or be aware of while doing this?

Long block usually means you have the head...

The newer head flows better than the 2002 head.

Yeah I do have the head. I just am reluctant to using it due to the air injection system being gone on the 07 as well as the 07 having different cam sensors on the valve cover.

I think you have the right idea, use the new short block and the old head. The heads flow the same so don't think about that. The 02 ecu is too rich, not too lean, but not by much. The 00-01 ecus are much further off. With the NEO it will make things better.

The newer Helms cover the older cars. But you probably don't need an 06-09 Helms because you are using the old head. You can get an 02-03 helms for very cheap or download for free. The newer ones are more.

There is a chance that one of the sensors like the crank position sensor is different on the 07. You should look at all the sensors when you do the swap or research ahead of time. I guess a new helms could help you there.

FYI There isn't an intake cam sensor on the 07 head.

Now might be a good time to do some headwork as well since you have it all apart. Just my $0.02.

I am wondering why you want to do mix and match.
If I were you, I just do total transplant of the engine.

It's not that simple.......

Multiple sensors are different between the different year engines. They DO NOT INTERCHANGE.

Thank you Lostmotion. I was in contact with another member doing a similar swap and he told me that I would have to swap the sensors.

Ya I plan on getting all headwork done. I just wanted to make sure it would work before I did it. From the way I look at it using my f20 head is really the best option. No CEL from the injection system, everything will bolt up to my wiring harness unlike the 07 head and I get to keep my ap1 cams which many people with an ap2 drop in their car.

More I think about it...isn't this just the easiest/best way to swap in the 06+ motor into an ap1?
