10W30 ----- 15W30. You live in Florida. What difference does it make. Once you get the thing warmed up, both oils will be 30 wt. The "W" applies to the first number which is its viscosity for cold weather cranking (or cold starts). If you're worried about the oil under hot weather high performance conditions, you should be more concerned about the 2nd number.

These oil threads always brings out the "best" in people. Pretty soon, the discussion progresses to everything BUT oil.

Crest makes at least a dozen, maybe more, different "kinds" of toothpaste and if you read the LABELS, you'll see there's one for white teeth, one for tartar fighting, another for fresh breath, etc. I wonder if they just push the same stuff into ALL the tubes. For sure, next month, I want the "high performance" tooth paste!

Hence, a 3000 mile oil change interval.

I'm thinking the same thing. If you leave your oil in the crankcase long enough to worry about the additives crapping out, I think that will be the least of your problems. I would be more concerned about sludge by that time.

This a very bold statement to make without some sort of back up info. And then to accuse someone of NOT knowing much about cars after this statement, you open yourself up to a lot of criticism.
Sorry, but I'm with Tugz.

First of all your dealer is wrong...a 15W30 will not benifit you at high rpms/high temps when compared with a 10W30. Look at the numbers. The first number is the viscosity index when the engine oil is cold. The higher the number, the more viscous the oil is(lower flow rate). The second number is the viscosity index when the engine oil is hot. So as you can see both numbers are the same. 30...right?...

SO, lets see if this will make sence to you...

if you use a 15W30 oil this is what will happen.
Under normal cold start-up, because the oil is a 15 weight oppose to a 10 weight, it will take a fraction of a second longer for oil to travel to engine parts. Havent you heard the saying? "Almost all of the wear in an engine occurs during startup"...what u want is to have the oil get to those vital engine parts asap after startup...a 15W30 will not help in that..10W30 is better.

As for high RPM's and high temperatures, like I said before, there is NO difference between the two 15W30 and 10W30. They WILL provide the SAME protection under normal driving conditions...

SO...this is what im saying, do NOT use 15W30, first of all it is not the reccomended oil for our cars and secondly, it will not provide the proper lubrication during cold startup....even on the warmest mornings...

OH and for that dealer who reccomended 5W20 oil... ...dont make me go there...

peace

Kids. You try to help them out and they just question your answers. Notice that he said his father's 911 says to use 10W-30, but Porsche recommends using 15W-30. I think he just wanted to use it because it the bottle of oil stated high performance . I think we should all be aware of this car when he sells it. Buyer beware!!!!

there's no problem in asking questions. but when people answer you and you continue to doubt their answers with your own theories, then it's completely pointless for someone like you to post questions. as for smart, don't confuse knowledge with intellect. regardless of your intelligence (no connotation meant by that), it's never too early to learn more about automobiles. i'm only 1 year older than you but my major partially encompasses the field of thermodynamics and physics such that i try to make connections between acquired knowledge through school and realworld practical applications like maintain my own car.

sorry i got off on the wrong foot. it was my mistake for blowing up. my excuse is that i didn't have breakfast or lunch. in any case, 15W30 will probably end up slowing you down. Your S2000 will run perfectly fine using 10W30. Certainly if there was a problem with it, you could take it up with the manufacturer as it is a factory recommendation to use 10W30. trust us when we say, 15W30 is overkill. good luck.
