Default 18 mpg?!?!?

I recently purchased a 2000 model with 48k miles. It has no visual modifications, I am not an obese man, and don't drive it abnormally hard. I drive about 50/50 highway and city. Why am i getting such bad mileage??

thanks!

00 models run a little more rich than later years but it shouldnt be so bad. i think it may have to do with the driving habits, spark plugs, and fuel injectors

18 mpg is not great, but it's certainly not horrible gas milage.

might be a o2 sensor, although you would probably have thrown a code... check engine light on?
