Default 1st to 2nd grind MY04

Hello. I have a 2004 S2k with ~7,700miles on it. When the vehicle is first driven, there is a grind going from 1st to 2nd. Once the vehicle is warmed up, shifting is fine. I've read through the forums and did take out the excess free play in the clutch pedal by tightening it as described in multiple threads, but it still occurs. Clutch fluid level is fine. Most of the posts I found were regarding the early models, but this is an AP2. The previous owner was a lady in her 50's or 60's who barely drove the car. If I shift into neutral first, release the clutch, and then shift into second, then there is no grind. Was going to flush the clutch fluid next, but was hoping to solve this problem without requiring work on the transmission or synchros since the vehicle is obviously out of warranty.

Clutch master could be worn out from old fluid.

Start shifting above 5k and see if that helps. I'm guessing you're shifting at too low rpm, and you're feeling notchiness, not grinding.

i am the original owner of an 04 which now has 75k on it. It has almost always ground in 1-2 shifts when cold. To bypass this you can:
shift slowly and feel your way into 2nd
drive a while in first to warm car up
skip shift into 3rd from 1st.
It's fairly normal to have this, and the rest of the time it is shifting like a riflebolt through butter.

I have also found that i have to sometimes make an effort to go into 1st (rarely happens now that i know what to expect) to make sure it is in first when cold, otherwise it will pop out under load, again only while cold and always has done this. Original clutch. well maintained car.

Compare this to my 2013 bmw 335 and that gearbox is always like butter.

Skip shifting wears synchros. I would not recommend doing that as "the norm".

It's definitely not notchiness. It's a buzz like feeling which I would describe as grind.

DOT 4 (I like ATE) brake fluid change makes a difference. What lube is in the tranny, now? Maybe change the tranny out to OEM Honda MTF.

Tranny fluid was changed by the Honda dealership last year, so I'm pretty sure it was the OEM stuff they used.

My car has always done this. I just shift slower (pause between gears) into 2nd when cold.
