not sure if this is the right section but i'll give it a shot. 04 with 42k, shifted at 7k from 1st to 3rd, grips fine and didnt slip. only time when it does slip to neutral is when i start the car and seconds later in 1st or sometimes 2nd it will slip back to neutral. any advice would be great!!

There is a tsb for this. This is refurred to as "popping out of gear". If your car is under warrenty, it will be taken care of. If you take it up to 6,500 rpm's in second gear, then abruptly lift of the throttle, it will pop out of gear almost every time. I know this because I test drove a 04 that had the same problem.

There is a TSB on popping out of 2nd gear for 04-05 cars, at high RPM. TSB#05-009.

Here is a copy of the TSB text:

wow thanks, unfortunately the car is out of warranty. though i got it not too long ago, im gonna ask the dealership to see if they are willing to look into it. is this a pretty "serious" problem that needs to be look at right away? also, if i were to end up getting this fix by the dealership, how much are we looking at?

Ask them for goodwill consideration. If they say no, then contact the district service manager.

I am by no means a master mechanic, but because I have experienced this when I test drove a friends car, I would say yes, this is a serious problem that needs to be corrected.

If you cannot get goodwill consideration, get quotes from 3-4 different Honda dealerships. I do not have an estimate for you.

I wish I could find the actual TSB for you. You could just copy and past the TSB in this thread to a notepad and copy it to a sheet of paper so you can show it to American Honda. And if they dun't give you goodwill consideration, show it to the Honda Dealer so they dun't screw up your car
