well it might be a whole 2.2 motor i was goignto swap the cams over. so is the head on the 2.2 the same.... i now the cams are different but other then that? not sure of. also i wanted to make more power the reving to 9k does not matter... but i know the power on the 2.2 is still increacing at the red line.
Unfortunately, I was commenting to what you typed, not what you were trying to say. Headwork will result is more power.

There is no problem putting a 2.0L head on a 2.2L short block.

I think what he was saying about the head was to use the 2.0 cams and springs. The 2.2 cam runs out of power at about 8500.

As to whether the 2.2 bottom end is a problem has yet to be determined. The only failures of the 2.2 revving to 9K have been admitted tuning problems. Lean will kill you no matter the bottom end.

I have seen nothing to stop me. I have the 2.2 and am looking for the cams and springs. But I will probably set the shift light for 8700ish and use the 9k only for special occassions or that last 10 feet needed as you come into a corner instead of an upshift.

The best combo I have seen seems to be the early tranny to minimize shifting (if you are doing autocross), early cams and springs as well (or aftermarket springs) and an ealy ecu (richer).

I have seen posts that seem contradictory as to whether the early ecu is the final solution, but it seems the early ecu and a VAFC takes care of any issues non matter what. I won't know until I try it.

My car will be mostly on the track so it will see lots of high revs, more so than a street car, so I guess I will be a good test. Unfortunately, due to house buying probs, I don't have the garage space presently to assemble the car so it may be spring before I get a chance to put it on the road, so by all means so it so that I can see what issues you run into.

piston speed isn't the only problem. Side loading on the cylinder walls is another issue, too. While many don't think there is a big difference from 8-9000 rpm, it is HUGE. Watch your AF ratio, going lean can kill it quick.

BTW, the 00-01 ECU would be better as it runs rich at the top end. In a 2.2 motor, it may give a good ratio.

How can you raise the 2005's rev limit by only 200rpm? Top of 4th gear is 100-101 at redline wich will limit your 1/4 mile time due to shifting into 5th. Extra 200 rpm would cure this and still be way safe. I know it it easy with a AEM but I would like to keep the stock ECU.
