Default 2 Different OEM engine filters? (picture)

Hi, I recently just bought a new S2000 Engine air filter but I'm having a problem trying to figure out if I got the correct one?

It had the right part number on it but the design differs a bit from the one I took out of the s2000(2004)

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is using this filter and if the design changed in the past couple of years?

Old filter one the left, New filter on the right.

New one seems to be wider on the base of the cone and smaller at the other end, also the end that inserts at the bottom, changed from a cross into more of a roud bar. just wanted to make sure the honda didn't give me the wrong filter or if the filters design just changed in the past couple of years.

Both Have honda Branding in the plastic portions of the filter, so their both oem.

Also, if your car still had the factory filter it might look slightly different than the replacement parts filter in terms of colour.

ah okay, I believe the first one is a cheaper aftermarket filter, the newer one is a correct S2000 Honda part. I'd rather use a Honda part they appear to be a better filter, and they have an integrated air horn at the base of the filter, not sure that the aftermarket filter would have one.

Ermmm nope their both honda. The old filter even has the branding on the back and front of the filter. I'm guessing theirs no way to figure out if this was a older design and the one I just bought was a newer design?

Here's a link to someone selling the same design as the old one I just pulled out of the car, compared to the new one i just bought, same part numbers too. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/825...ne-air-filter/

The ones I've handled have been the replacement parts for an Ap1, and they all had that larger tapered shape to them. Ive never seen an ap2 2006+ filter up close but it is supposed to be slightly different with a different part number. The filters changed in 2006 but I've never seen one up close.

The green tinged one on the right is probably more correct than the other. I guess both would work if they fit correctly.

Here's a guess. The filter on the right is an old style that may have been intended for use on S2000's and was designed pre-production.
At production, the size of the air box was actually increased hence the new larger filter.

Left filter: blue, for 2006-2009 s2k
Right filter: green, for 2000-2005 s2k

Both are OEM Honda parts. Fact

If you had the blue filter in your 2004 s2k, and your airbox has a cross shaped hole, then you have a 2006-2009 airbox in your car.

your 2004 s2k should have a round hole, and uses the green filter.
