1) Why would you, the '04 already makes a little tiny bit more power
2) The '04 probably wont safely rev to 9,000 RPM, and even if it could, it probably makes more power @ 5,000 RPM.

yea, but it seems like if you opened up the I/H/E; you'd be able to take advantage of the 03's higher revving on the 04' motor.

also, just b/c the bore was increased doesn't mean it can't rev to the same limits as the 03.

I'm just curious if the OBD systems are different?

Doesn't mean it can, either.

I don't think they bored it; I believe they just stroked it, in which case it does affect the rev range.

Max rpms are determined by more than just piston speeds. They are also determined by how fast the valves can be closed. I've gotten the impression in the time I've spent on this forum that more than a few 2.0's have lunched themselves because of valve float. Missed shifts, that sort of thing. I don't know what kind of rpms the engine had to acheive for that to happen. Five hundred rpm over redline, 1k rpm? Anyone know?

Now, considering Honda's predilection for maximizing efficiency, I don't think it's out in left field to consider the possibility that Honda "might" have lighted the valve springs a bit when they lowered the redline 1000 rpm on the 2.2 engine. Lighter valve springs would take a little pressure off the valve train as a whole and might give them another percentage point in minimizing internal engine friction.

I have no idea if this is the case or not but I do think it's a possibility. The question then becomes, "Just how big a chance are you willing to take with your engine?"

Just a thought!

Steve R.

PS: Oh, and 2004WhiteS, I'm assuming this was just a typo on your part but the engine was stroked, not bored!
