Default 2004 longblock on an 00?

Could a 2004 long block work on an 00 w/ 00 ecu, tranny wiring harness, etc..? It's time for a new motor, so I've been considering this option.

i'm sure you'd need the 04 ecu, but It seems like you would be fine with the 00 wiring harness and tranny. Am i wrong?

I am only 17 but I now more about s2000's than many people that own them. It's my dream car and it's kinda sad how much i love them

yea the 04 ecu is most likely a must, but I think the tranny would be also right? Isnt the 04 tranny geared differently to account for the motor being 2.2 rather than the 2.0 9krpm f20? If the new 2.2 did bolt up to our trannies, I dont know if it would be better or worse to use our trannies

if u are looking to increase displacment, why not just bore your f20c .20 over and use some oversized pistons. it seems that will be a much simpler/cheaper solution that buying a complete 04 bottom end.

then get a VAFC (i honestly dont like them) and some dyno time.

o and on the ecu swapping issue, doesnt the 04 have a digital ingnition (no distributor) so i dont think u will be able to use it on a 00-03 b/c they do have a dist.

s2ks are not my thing so feel free to chime in if i am wrong

I can't bore my block. There is a hole between #3 and #4.

What exactly consitutes a "longblock"? Is that essentially the engine (case, crank, pistons, valves, head, etc.) minus the intake and exhaust tracks, and the electronics?

If so, are you proposing the equivalent of taking a stock '04 car and replacing the ECU with an '00 version?

There's been some discussion of that elsewhere, mostly from the desire to get back to 9000rpm I think.
