Default 2004 oil consumption

Hello, I've been hanging around this board for a while now trying to get all the info I need. Great site. Well I plan on getting either a S2000 or an RSX Type-S when I get my degree. So I was wondering if anybody knew if the 04 will consume oil like the previous S2000's do, since the 04 has a lower redline? I don't know about you people but when somebody tells me there car burns oil I automaticly assume that there is something wrong. My Girlfriend will think it's a POS when I have to fill up on oil everytime I get gas. I've been over at club RSX and I see no mention of oil consumption. You have to register to use the search engine which is kinda stupid. But I searched pretty far back through the threads and don't see a thing. Anybody got a clue?

What about to the top? Has anybody had problems with convertible top? How long will the top last? This will be my first convertible if I get it. So I don't really have any experience with it.

basicallly any DOHC VTEC(high performance) motor from honda will burn oil, ESPECIALLY if you engage VTEC. if i drive my car normally, the car will not burn oil at all. it only burns oil when i vtec, and i am 100% used to this. i have a h22a-s motor in my daily driver accord and that is also DOHC VTEC, the motor has 45k miles on it and still burns oil ONLY when i vtec. the motor is strong and feels like its getting stronger and stronger as the mileage increases.

the f22c on the new s2000 is basically a stroked f20c. the engine wll most likely have the same characteristics and burn oil under vtec use.

about the rsx-s, that car also burns oil. my best friend has one and he has to add oil when he gets vtec happy. as i said, its normal. if you're worried about your gf thinking your car is a POS when you need to add oil, you either explain to her that you're driving a high performance car OR you get a new girlfriend.

have a nice day.

It's not really about my GF, I was just making an example of what people think when you tell them your car burns oil.

What about the top, does it leak or anything?

It is the same engine. Just stroked. Once the rings are seated, you'll be fine. If you get the car, just be patient and follow the break in instructions.

Most high compression DOHC engines w/ variable valve timing burn some amount of oil. Not just Honda's.

Its when you're burning abnormal amounts of oil that you should be concerned. You'll eat the most oil during break-in... I would not be worried if you lost a quart over the first 1,000 miles.

The idea is that the oil consumption subsides as the engine accumulates more miles. Mine doesn't really burn any oil at all (if it did, its not enough to notice on the dipstick)... but I also don't VTEC it that often.

Just my opinion, but I would not buy a convertible unless it could be garaged. As to oil consumption, I have 11000 miles and went with Mibil 1 10-30 at approx. 3000 miles and have had no oil noticible oil consumption between changes. I do change at 2000 mile intervals due to supercharger though. Do not want any sludge build up on oriface lubing supercharger.

So far, with just under 1500 miles, I have not used any oil (at least not enough that I can measure it or have had to add oil).

Also, I'm not sure that vtec is what causes the consumption. When mine was brand new it comsumed a small amount of oil while i was breaking it in (no vtec). It actually seems to consume less oil than when the car was new (fair amount of vtec) . My car doesn't really seem to consume oil as much now or at all. I check it very regularly and also change the oil more frequently than reccomended. My car now has about 5075 miles on it.

Oh, and also high compression dohc motors don't neccesarily mean oil consumption. My 3.0L Nissan Z engine with variable timing and 10.5:1 comp. ratio didn't consume it just leaked it : (
