2005 Engine corrosion
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and am in the market for an AP2 S2000. I have located a 2005 with approximately 30k miles near by, however, I have some questions of the visual condition of the engine as pictured below. I have noticed what seems to be corrosion on the manifold, alternator and misc parts in the engine, such as the value cover letterings (HONDA VTEC. Knowing this car is 10 years old now, however, it is stated to have below 30K miles, is this normal? Is there anything to be concerned about? I have seen other examples with more and less mileage that did not exhibit this "issue." I cannot ask about the previous owner because this is sold through a Honda dealership.
I apologize if this has been addressed before. I appreciate all the help!
Thank you!

This is surface aluminum alloy oxidation. Common, esp in cars that were parked outside during their lives. The oxidation may become an issue, if it goes well below the surface and threatens the integrity of the metal. You would need to replace those parts.

The previous owner probably never wiped all those areas down before. I usually wipe down everything in my engine bay after every wash. I have only had those spots show up since I moved to Japan since my car sits outside a lot more than its used to. (it also is a 2005) I think most of that should clean up easily mine does/did.
clean like you would do rims and coat with this regularly

Aluminum oxidation doesn't work like that. Unlike rust on steel parts, oxidation on aluminum will actually protect it from further corrosion.
Oxidation doesn't just wipe off. It will require some sort of abrasive to remove it.
