Default 2005 s2000 "fuel cut" problems

My buddy has a 2005 s2000 and it started exhibiting these problems recently. When he would get to half a tank or lower, when he would hit vtec, upon shifting and getting back on the gas, it would act like fuel cutting and just lose power for a second and then come back. Sometimes it would just quick fuel cut stutter, and sometimes the engine would not come back for a couple of seconds.

Now we've observed it's fuel level related. Any ideas what it could be?

I have this same problem with mine. I think it is fuel level related as I tend to run mine quite low - I view it as an early warning sign to top up this fuel then it's fine.

Anymore guesses? I actually know what caused it, but i want to see if anyone else might have similar issues or know what it is. Because it's possibly not what you think it is.

Ok.

For anyone with this issue. Might want to look at the fuel pump sock filter and the fuel sender (the float).

The fuel sender was reading half a tank when he was almost out of gas.

and the fuel sock was pretty clogged up.

I had a friend who had a similar problem in autox. He was running about half tank and took a hard left offset and that caused some fuel starve in his car. I don't know about the shifting in a straight line thing though
