Default 3 inch down pipe with dauls, make any sense?

I posted earlier but no one seems interested so heres round two. I have HKS exhaust but i'm going turbo. I don't want to loose my exhaust, as i love the daul look. Would there be any gains from fabricating a new downpipe (3") and leaving the tips/resonator of the origonal exhaust?? Thnx,

Brandon

You don't have to lose the dual exhaust look. You could get a custom setup made for fairy cheap, or buy a dual 3" exhaust from ultimate Racing.

If you go with a turbo, you will most likely need to change everything from the turbo manifold back (meaning the minimum should be 2.5 inches plus).

A turbo setup generates a great deal more airflow, and impeding this airflow causes a great deal of power loss. You'll probably be better off going with function over form and ditching the stock exhaust, but if moderate numbers are your goal and form is more important than function (to some people it is), you might be able to get away with the stock tips.

A 3" downpipe with the stock tips will net you nothing though, the air will still be bottlenecked at the tips. It may be a good idea though for when you realize how much power the exhaust is sapping, and decide to switch out the stock tips for some Apex N1s and a custom exhaust system.

Dwight at Stage6 does fantastic custom welding, you might want to talk to him and get a price:

Spugen from what I understand should be offering a 3" exhaust pretty soon for turbo. I am running their turbo right now, and they made me a single outlet exhaust with 3" piping.
