Keep us updated Ric. I'm interested in hearing how your case turns out.

I have been running with VTM-4 in my diff for over a year with no problem. It has survived at least a dozen autocross weekends and close to 10,000 miles while I wait patiently for it to self-destruct, drunk on VTM-4.

See this thread
Maybe you have a "miracle" diff - that ONE in a THOUSAND diffs made that was perfect and can take all kinds of abuse before grenading. You may have one that can take mud for fluid and keep on ticking. (Of course, I'm exaggerating. )
I hope it continues to do well but you might be living on borrowed time. When you finally dump that fluid, you should grab a sample for analysis.

I certainly will. I posed the question to Honda UK today, but I'm still waiting for their official response .............

I hope it self-destructs soon! I'm sick of wondering when it's going to go.
I suspect that the VTM-4 will end up all over the roadway and no sample will be available...

A sample while the diff is still intact will prove one of 2 things:
1. You can show this to your dealer and have documentation that you deserve a new diff.
2. You can show all of us here that there is nothing wrong with the VTM fluid.
If you wait till the diff blows, you may not have solid evidence of a genuine claim. Honda can then just state that you abused the diff.

Well - Honda UK have just called a few minutes ago, and confirmed exactly we all knew already, which was that the s2000 requires Hypoid semisynthetic GL5/GL6 oil with a (viscocity rating ?) of 90. That's consistent with everything I've read and all the advice I've been given here. They also confirmed that Dual Pump fluid is for the CR-V, and NOT for the s2000.

I mentioned that not only has my dealer put dual pump fluid into my diff, but that I have now encountered more than just a couple of similar cases experienced by other owners, which have resulted in noisy/damaged/broken diffs.

They do seem concerned about this, ("that's very odd" were the exact words) and have said that as a starting point they will contact my dealer , and that I can expect to hear from them again tomorrow morning. (We'll see ..........!)

Well that's somewhat reassuring. Keep us posted on what the dealer has to say about all this. It should make for an interesting story!

HondaUK just called, having questioned my dealer as to why they put dual pump fluid in the diff. Apparently, the dealer is now claiming that they used GL5 hypoid oil (the correct stuff).

Hmmm - so to recap - the invoice says they used Castrol Magnatec (engine oil)
When I phone them to check this they say 'no - actually we used dual pump fluid.'
When Honda UK call them, they say 'no - actually we used GL5 hypoid'.

Call me a cynic, but I do believe they're making it up as they go along. Well, not much more I can do about it without getting the oil analysed - I'll just wait for the bang ...............

If an oil analysis would show that they put in the wrong oil, not sure if it can differentiate between the dual pump and GL-5 fluid, then I would do one for my piece of mind and if it shows to be the wrong fluid, throw it in their face, threaten legal action for lying and demand a new differential with proper fluid. This is BS.
