I would absolutely, 100% drain a small amount of differential fluid (100cc) out of the car and have it analyzed. It will provide evidence that you are either OK or that you need to follow up with the dealer.

Here in the USA, and oil analysis costs about $15-20 and is well worth it for the information it will provide.

Hi guys,

I know this is an old thread, but it seems appropriate to add to this that start a new one.

My diff has started making a horrible noise, it has been 17k miles since the service which changed the diff oil but all these miles have been on a motorway. Having read this thread I have checked my service history and it only stated "DIFF OIL LTS/1 TRANSFER OIL LTS/" Further down the invoice the only similar product used is "ZULTRON A01H 1LTR ULTRON"...does this mean anything to anyone, has the correct oil been used ?

Has my diff just failed through wear and tear????

Not likely. This diff has lasted over 100,000 miles in some cars. 17,000 is nothing. Something else is going on here.
Have never heard of this fluid. You should find out what brand and what GL rating it is. Maybe it's not even GL rated, in which case, you may have your answer.

It is stories like this that scare me away from the dealer. It is sad to say that we are better off getting the information off of this board and performing the service ourselves (or somebody reputable near you.) I would suggest before getting anything done you research exactly what it is that needs to be done before going to the dealer. In this case it would have benefited to research what needs to be used and then ask the dealer what they plan on using. Anyhow, the $15-$20 oil analysis might be worth it to prove that it is or isn't the correct oil. If it isn't and you can't prove it, they will likely deny warranty due to abuse. I have to wonder how many people have gotten screwed from incorrect maintenance by Honda causing damage. At any rate, I used the mobile 1 gear oil as somebody else suggested.
