Default 4.44 final drive

Ive read that the 4.44 is the best for better 1/4 mile times and that the 4.77 is fun for street driving but slows you down cause of the extra shifting in the same diatance. I have also read that the top end gets affected. they are talking about the top speed right not that acceleration at high speeds get worse or anything right?

With the 4.77, your rate of acceleration of faster but your top end speed is lowered.

Not necessarily. As said, you must be a fast shifter. That being the case, the added acceleration advantage of the 4.77's will more than make up for the time taken for the extra shift UNLESS you shift like a gramma. Even still, if you compare a slow shifter's times to himself, he will still be faster with the 4.77's. Very little will offset the handicap of a slow shifting driver when stacked up against a fast shifting driver, regardless of gears.

As for Rick's chart, remember the word "theoretical" top speed. This car will NOT achieve redline in 6th gear with the stock gears. It may even be doubtful that it would achieve redline with 4.3 gears but since the stock car can achieve just over 150 mph REAL road speed, a 4.44 equiped will also be able to reach this relative same top speed. The only truth is that the 4.77 equipped car will have a lower top speed because it will most likely reach 6th gear redline and NOT be as fast as the other geared cars. But then, how many will actually go that fast anyway?
