4.56 RATIO

4.56 RATIO
Hi all, hoping someone can point me in the right direction with this one....
I had a company fit a brand new ratio(4.56) with new bearings which came as part of the kit, I also got new bearings for the ring and pinion from honda, after the kit was fitted the diff was really noisy so the guys took it apart again to check the spacing between the ring and pinion, the guy tried different sitting but the diff was still very loud, if I acc or de-acc you can hear a kind of knocking noise but if you let it free roll in N you can hear a little whine and no other noise which I assume is how it is suppose to be???
could it be...
1.a faulty bearing
2.miss match of gears
3.company installed it wrong.
I got the gears from a company on the forum.
any input would be good thanks guys and girls.

The 4.56 when set right will only have a slight whine. Knocking from the rear says to me that the install was done wrong. I bet the pinion shim is too thick and it is letting the pinion hit the ring gear
Have your installer paint the gears to show the pattern that they are taking.
This pic shows a good pattern for that gear set also take note to the backlash setting

The 4.56 cars I've been in don't have a slight wine, it's loud and annoying.

I've got the 4.57 Richmond gears and they make noise. From what I understand though, the 4.56 gearset is quieter than the original 4.57 gearset. The 4.57s whine is worst at specific speeds - that just so happen to center at regular highway speeds. 53-55mph (which is where my Comptech exhaust likes to drone as well - I literally can't drive 55!), 73-75 mph, and at other speeds that aren't posted - but at which the traffic flows in some larger cities.
Don't get me wrong - they are great for acceleration, but not so great on the ears for long trips. I don't even bother to turn on my stereo.
My car hasn't seen the track in years (no time) so it's hard to justify the noise, especially when I drive my S on long road trips. I'll be switching to a set of quiet 4.44 gears. I'll play with tire sizes if I need more low-down grunt on the track.
P.D., you should be hearing from Jeff about setting up an AP2 diff with 4.44s for me in the near future. I look forward to the new gears.
Let me know if anyone is interested in a 4.57 diff for the track
