Default 4.77 installed. Thumbs up!

$177 for installation gears with oil. I took out the diff myself. It took me 3 hours to replace the pumpkin yesterday.

With the lighter flywheel and pulleys, this mod gets me going much easier; virtually no clutch slip needed, with reverse easier to get going. Engine seems much more powerful with 3k rpm showing no strain and ability to be very peppy down those lower rpms.

I like going on freeways 4K rpm at 65 mph. Excellent ability to accelerate in top gear from that rpm. Around town driving is much easier to be in the proper gear for various speeds.

Thanks to Rick for providing the reduced price on this excellent modification.

For me, no downside on this gearing.

I am really interested in track impressions. With shorter gears you should be able to pull out of turns at a lower rpm, but there is more shifting. Does it force shifts in awkward spots and is it harder to be smooth with the number of shifts required? I'm sure it depends upon the track but I always guessed this may a two edged sword.

How long did it take your installer to do it? I have been itching to get 4.77s, but don't really have any good local installers (that I know of). I was thinking about shipping the pumpkin to someone for the install.

Did you wind up using the OEM installation parts?

I'll try to update about gas mileage, etc., as time goes by. Since my shift points around town are the same (~4K rpm), the mileage might be same or better. I find the gearing more appropriate/comfortable for the particular speeds around town in 25-45 mph zones, where traffic tends to go faster than that as well.

I dropped the diff off on a Tuesday afternoon and it was done by Thursday morning looking brand new. They took time to paint the black part of the diff and black attachment points. Trouble is, that covered up my reference points for driveshaft and axles. The car is smooth and quiet back there, anyway, so whether or not that mattered....

Driving my local canyon, going around tight 25 mph turns in 2nd is so much better; I am able to modulate speed better, and get a couple more mph, and the acceleration coming out of the turn is nice. I suppose in a race with such a tight turn, 1st might be chosen with either gear?

I did not need oem installation parts, like the bearing, but I did not go through the box finding out what he did use, specifically. He seemed to indicate for sure the bearing wasn't used, and I did see that in its wrapper.

It's nice to see kudos from major racing teams displayed in his office.
