Default 4.77 Kia Gear Installation HELP!

Hi,

I bought this ring and pinion on eBay.
We opened up the diff and we faced a problem.

The pinion I received does not fit the S2000 diff

1) The bearing that I received with the Kia set is different than the OEM Honda therefore it does not fit. The OEM one is longer.

2) The crush sleeve that I received on the Kia pinion is longer than the OEM one.

We first though about removing the bearing from the OEM pinion and putting it on the Kia pinion but the part where we need to put the bearing is longer on the Honda Pinion but let's say we do put the Honda bearing on the Kia pinion, underneath some part of the bearing remain unsupported (since the kia bearing is shorter the pinions bearing part is designed for that size bearing. when you put the honda bearing on there, it is longer)
Also the Honda crush sleeve does not fit and remains loose because the longer honda bearing will block the crush sleeve from where it needs to go.

Any ideas???

I am not saying that I cannot fit it inside the diff but I am saying that I was scared because the parts do not fit the way I wanted.

I can put the oem roller bearing onto the kia pinion but the place that the bearing goes on is shorter on the kia one

here is a picture to show

this is the S2000 pinion

and this is the kia one

if you compare both, you will see that the part for bearing is longer on the honda one and the place where the crush sleeve will go is longer on the kia one

now if we put the longer honda bearing on the kia pinion which is designed for a shorter bearing then some part of the bearing remains unsupported.

also the middle part where the crush sleeve goes on onto the pinion is designed for a longer crush sleeve. not the lengt of the crush sleeve will be fine once we put honda bearing and honda crush sleeve on there but because the longer bearing will cover some part of the place that was designedfor the crush sleeve, then the honda crush sleeve is loose because that part of the pinion gets thinner.

Is this the way to install this pinion on the diff?

PM PuddyDaddy. He's the king of diffs in the S2K world. Great guy and I'm sure he wouldn't mind guiding you step-by-step.

Everyone on this site seems to think that PuddyDad is the king of differentials - and there are a bunch of smart folks on this forum.

Just curious, why did you think that a Kia ring and pinion set would fit the S2k? If someone on eBay advertised it that way and it doesn't fit, you should be able to get your money back.

But ask PuddyDad - based on his reputation on this forum, he'll know.

mazda makes the final drive gears from honda and kia. itll fit. you either got the wrong gears marked as the right gears or your doing something wrong.

The KIA gear set you bought will fit just fine, you need to take your Honda bearing and Honda crush sleeve and use them with your new/used KIA gear set. Also note you will want to use a new Honda crush sleeve once you do your install.

Good luck
