Hope this is not a FAQ...
I finally got to spend some time under my car this weekend... What is the little extension that sticks out of the exhaust about 6" located about half way back? Is it some sort of torque tube?

Just a guess, but I believe it's a tuning port to cancel out sound ressonances at 2000/4000/8000 rpms.

 

when i was at my dealership for delivery i had them put the car up over my head to take a look, the 6 incher you're refering to is a tuning job. Just to spiff up the sound a bit. I wonder if there's any horsepower to be had by removing it. Or maybe if us americans would like the sound better without it.

 

I remember a mugen article saying it was of nearly no impact on performance. Might as well leave it.

 

Many of the aftermarket exhausts including my Neuspeed also have this.
