Default about to pull motor and replace w/ another

Hey guys, about to pull out the current motor and replace it with a new block , any tips or suggestions on the most efficient (or easiest) way of doing this? unbolting the trans and pull motor out completely from the top? or remove engine+trans+bottom cross member? and pull from the bottom? Any other tips I could pass along my mechanic?

tips i've seen so far:
-pay attention to the tranny bolts, one bolt connects through the block and into the tranny?
-make sure not to hit knock sensor when trying to locate tranny bolts
-I'll be having the clutch replaced as well, will things be done differently?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you've gotten some of the good tips.

I would recommend adding a head to the top of the new block you install

I heard you don't really need that... but seriously, if just replacing the complete engine (head+bottom end), is it better (or easier) to pull out from the top once the trans is disconnected, or much easier to pull everything (including trans if needed) from the bottom?

My understanding that it's easier to unbolt the crossmember and drop the entire assembly. I'm surprised nobody has answered this, as I haven't done and many others have.

Consider this a bump

I'm having mine swapped as we speak and my mechanic dropped the tranny and pulled the motor from the top.
That's about all the input I have as I'm not the one doing it, but I do know that's what he did.

I prefer to drop the engine and trans together through the bottom and then split them. We've done several that way.
