Default ABS concern

My ABS keeps kicking in avery time my speed drops below 5mph. The brakes work fine stopping the car, but when I slow down to 5mph the ABS kicks in. It is frustrating - any ideas?

Thanks

There must be some switch in the logic that prevents that, normally. Sounds like a problem in either a sensor or a computer. (Yeah, really helpful and specific advice, I know....)

Do you get an ABS light? If so, pull (or get pulled) a code. If not, something weird indeed is going on.

I am not sure if the light comes one. I have to check and see. Can I read the ABS codes with an OBDII tester?

Is it doing this every time, or on certain types of surfaces? I've noticed that my ABS is extremely sensitive to uneven / bumpy surfaces. It is particularly irritating at poorly maintained intersections.

You'll need a Honda specific scan tool to access ABS DTC's

Faulty wheel speed sensors, as well as improper air gap of the sensor can cause erratic low speed ABS operation, without high pedal effort.

OK, here is the really strange part. The ABS pump kicks in when the speed drops down to 7mph (revised from 5mph) even if I DON'T PRESS THE BRAKE. The ABS light does not come on at any time. What on earth can make the ABS come one if I am not even touching the brake? Anyone....

Either your ABS module is broken (or perhaps severe moist in unit or connectors) or you have modified something to the wheels/axles.

Rather interesting, as I have NEVER heard of something like this before!

Some additional thoughts:

The ABS will run a self-check after start-up (ignition on) of the car, but the pump will first self-check after the car starts driving low speed below 10 km/h which roughly is 7 mph. This is why your observation about 7 mph is interesting. Maybe your ABS unit is seeing a 'start-up' of the vehicle more often, so I would first check the connections to the unit.

Please let us know how things evolve!

P.S. Was your car damaged and fixed at one point?
