Default ABS Light...

Hey guys,

My ABS light has been coming on after about 30 minutes of driving. Oddly enough, when I begin driving again after leaving it parked, it goes away only to eventually return. ABS does not engage when the light is on but works fine when it's off so it's definitely shutting down. I can't be sure but it seems to be triggered by rough roads too...

I had Honda pull the codes and the history shows a failed right rear wheel sensor. Honda advised to replace the part (of course), but some of my searching on this forum has lead me to believe that I might be able to clean or repair it.

Does anyone have any insight into what I should be looking for when I inspect it? How do i know if it's not repairable?

Thanks!

I had driveshaft spacers installed last August and I've been running Koni yellow/S-Techs combo for the last 4 years. Other than that I'm totally stock.

This did start happening about two weeks after I had it serviced at Honda. Just had fluids flushed though: Oil, Trans and brakes.

possibly get your ABS system bled, or it could be an ABS module problem, simple reset should fix it.

Honda said they reset the system after pulling the codes...

the thing i hate about most mechanics is, they have the answer, they're just lazy, ask what codes they pulled and if they did an "automated ABS system bleed" its like bleeding your brakes, except for the ABS system

What bothers me is that you can't talk directly to the mechanic at Honda, you have to talk to a service rep...that doesn't really know anything.

Just re-checked my invoice. Here are the codes:

15-1 Right rear wheel sensor open or short
16-1 Right rear wheel sensor failure.

Could an ABS system that requires bleeding trigger these codes?

very interested.

I have the same issue of abs light coming on. Once the light comes on, my abs is switched off. I know this because it would come on after my warm up lap at the track. Thereafter I promptly locked up on hard braking due to bumpy asphalt before the turn in on a certain corner.

I got the mech to clean the sensor but that hasnt helped. I will apparently need to get the matter diagnosed to have the codes read.

Do let me know what you find out.

I'm planning on hitting the track next month so I'm hoping to get this rectified as quickly (and inexpensively) as possible.

On a side note, I'm a little interested to know how it performed without ABS. Were you eventually able to modulate the pedal reasonably to avoid lock up. How was the F/R balance?

I will bet they damged the sensor when they installed the drive shaft spacers. You have to pull the drive shafts from the diff and you have to disconnect the knuckles from the arms to get the clearance. Unless you have the two piece design TR1 spacers.

There is NO ABS system bleed. I call

so honda read the codes and cleared them and they came back?
