Default AC ticking sound...

When my car is on and running without the AC, it sounds fine. The second I switch on the AC, there is a loud ticking sound. It also sometimes engages roughly. This goes away when I depress the clutch or turn off the AC. Anyone have any ideas? It sounds to me like if the timing chain is smacking the motor. The motor is not lacking oil and has an inline pro TCT installed. I did a valve adjustment a few months back. This drives me nuts sitting in traffic.

Update 8/10/11:
I depress the clutch at 5 seconds and release it at 8 seconds. I then depress it again at 13... help is greatly appreciated.

If I turn the ac on while my motor is still cold, then it is really loud. I've never noticed if its a ticking noise, but I'll check tomorrow.

I actually was really freaked out about it for the longest time but chose to ignore it

If it ain't broke, then I don't fix it

mine ticks every once in a while, if i turn it up/down it goes away, not rpm or clutch related, ac works fine.

somebody else at work had a ticking thing and was guessing it was like the compressor/pump trying to suck air or something...

The ac still works fine during the ticking. The thing that throws me off is that it goes away when I step on the clutch.

I've always thought it was clutch chatter.. and with the a/c on it causes more of a load on the engine causing more vibration. But to me its always sounded like clutch chatter

This is on a newly broken in ACT clutch with a pro lite flywheel. Also brand new throwing and pilot bearing. All professionally installed.

yep, i have that same issue.

what i can think of is;

the ac compressor could be low on oil.

exhaust bolt(s) loose (i know its sorta irrelevant but since the motor is working a little harder to support the compressor and due to this the engine shakes. overtime the exhaust bolt(s) could have gotten loose).

comb inside the CAT is loose.

thats all i can think of.

edit; i also recently upgraded my clutch.

i am mainly leaning toward the compressor. i heard that its usually the compressor that gives out first. correct me if im wrong.

lets hope we both get this thing fixed with minimal impact on our wallet.
