Default ACT Clutch and OEM Disk?

I'm installing a speedcraft kit next week and currently the car is all stock. I was curious what kind of clutch set up was reccomended. I was planning on getting the ACT PP (HD or Extreme) and an OEM disk. Should I just get the ACT disk also? Thanks for the help.

The ACT clutch is a OEM clutch. Its a no brainer that you should buy the OEM disk since it doesn't include the markup.

Get a ACT HD PP and a stock disk and a light flywheel toda or comptech.

The ACT disk is just an OEM or so the rumor states.

I would not recommend using a clutch plate with springs. They are known to fail and fly around in the bellhousing.

I would say get a full (round) clutch disk without springs.

I asked a rep from ACT in a thread on Honda-Tech specifically whether the ACT "Street Disk" was a different part. He explicitly stated that they are repackaging OEM Honda clutches. He did add that in the future (very non-specific) they would create their own part.

I wouldn't recommend a un-sprung clutch disk at all, unless the car is for track use only. It turns your clutch into a off-on switch pretty much. With the speed craft kit and a clutch like that your diff will be blown out within the week most likely.

Actually Slick Rick brings up a good point... The on off nature of unsprung disks always kept me using the stock disk. But, I had an opportunity to drive Slick Ricks car at ButtonWillow and i must say that the unsprung full disk wasnt that bad. Clutch engagment was a little trickier than what i'm used to with my setup but i could live with it on the street if i had to. The anticipated reliability of the unsprung disk setup is a big plus. I'll shortly be swapping my oem disk out after 40K very hard miles, mostly track.

Actually, what makes a clutch an "on/off" switch is the layout of the disk.

A six puck disk is much more abrupt than a full disk. A four puck disk is crazier still.

I think, and please don't quote me, when you have less material - you have to make it more abrasive. That's why as soon as it makes contact, it grabs.

Dave, I think the part that was tricky was the dam earthquake that was happening in the differential.........

Isn't the OEM disk the problem in the "Clutch Buzz" TSB? (return springs flying out).
Or has that factory problem been solved?
My buzzing clutch is crying out to be changed - I HATE that noise.
There's no way I'd replace it with the same part, unless you guys tell me otherwise.

Would appreciate the help,
Hockey

Buzzing is one thing. It's fairly harmless.

Springs flying out? You better be ready for more than buzzing.

Buzzing is just harmonics, I guess.
