Default ACT pulling a fast one?!

Is it just me or is there basically no difference between the ACT plate and the stock plate? The only difference that I see is that the fingers are pushed down more on the ACT.. and the ACT is painted yellow with a neat sticker on it. I was told that the fact that it is 'pushed down' more is because that my plate is used? Is that true?

Also .. ACT apparently took a dremel tool to one of the fingers and rubbed off the honda part number, whats up with that?

Ethier ACT has alot of explaining to do, or this is a fake part...?? Can some ACT customers help me out here?

Here are the pictures..

The ACT PP is indeed a reworked stock unit and they make no efforts to deny that fact (removal of the part number would be a standard practice since it is no longer that part).
However, the ACT street disk is a straight up stock disk at twice the price.
So if you've got a beef, it should be with the disk not the PP

BTW, the other aftermarket PP

Yup ACT PP are all reworked stock units... as far as I know, all of them. It's true for teg and civic apps.

Are all aftermarket pressure plates just reworked stock ones? Also, are all aftermarket disks just stock ones marked up?

I dont know exactly how much it is, but I paid 445 bucks for an unmodified stock disk (I thought the disk was an ACT unit also), and now apparently the stock PP where the only difference is that they heated the fingers up and pressed them in a tiny bit (they only pressed them down the thickness of the metal fingers.. about 1/8th of an inch)

I gotta start making clutches man cause if that's all they do.. well, my ass is hurtin!

Oh well you learn something new every day. I am going to have the shop put it in anyways..

Thanks for the help

they claim 44% increase I dont understand how this could be true, but then again, I dont understand clutches all that well.. the explaination on howstuffworks.com (or whatever that site is) sucks..

It seems obvious to me that the only difference between the stock plate and the ACT plate is that they pressed the down fingers (towards the clutch plate - if it were installed) about 1/8th of an inch. If this translates in to 44% more preasure then I need to get in to the clutch business!

The dudes at the shop said it had the same number of springs, and they appeared to be stock..

ACT claims that they heat treat it, you can tell that it was heated.. but it definetly appears that the only difference is that the fingers are pushed in.. I guess I will call ACT when they open.
